Definition
The term "poverty cycle" basically means when a family is stuck in poverty for generations ("What is the Poverty Cycle?"). Usually, children will inherit advantage or disadvantage from their parents. For example, if the parents are wealthy, the child will most likely be wealthy. If the parents are poor, than the child will most likely be poor. The term "disadvantage" can also mean skills, not just wealth and money. An example would be if the parent cannot read, the child, likely, will not be able to read (CommunitySols). This can be caused by numerous reasons, the most common being the lack of education.
Children get it worse when it comes to poverty. They are the ones who have no say in how they are raised, making them helpless ("Effects of Poverty on Society: Why We Should All Care"). Like mentioned before, children are usually a product of their parents (Ratcliffe, Caroline and Signe-Mary McKernan). This makes them pick up bad habits from their parents early in their lifetime, usually resulting in poverty for the child.

Causes
The causes of poverty are both psychological and physical. The psychological causes are ignorance, apathy, dishonesty, and dependency.
-Ignorance means to have a lack of information (Bartle). There is information you need and do not need. For example, a doctor may not need to know about farming, but he does need to know about science. When a person is given useless information, they cannot work, leading to poverty.
-Apathy is when a person just does not care (Bartle). When a person in poverty does not care, he will not try to change anything, and continue in poverty.
-Dishonesty is where embezzlement thrives (Bartle). When you steal, you will go to prison, losing your job and your funds. With a criminal record, you can not find a new job, placing you in poverty.
-Dependency is the last factor. Charities can help right after disasters, but they do not help in the long run (Bartle). If someone depends on a charity too much, they do not learn any skills. When the charity is gone, the do not know how to survive, leading them into poverty.
The physical causes of poverty are having no education, economic decline, gender, and disability. Abilities and jobs are limited without an education (CommunitySols). This limitation makes finding a job harder, leading to poverty. Economic decline also contributes to poverty ("What is the Cycle of Poverty?"). Economic decline means that there are less jobs available, making it harder to find one, leading to poverty. Thirdly, gender is another factor ("Causes of poverty and inequality"). Women are discriminated against by employers, making it hard for them to find a job, putting them in poverty. Lastly, there is disability ("Causes of poverty and inequality"). A disabled person's actions are limited, making their job options limited. This makes it harder for them to find a job, leading to poverty.
